The initiative “Mungia: A Fairtrade Town” has been launched

“A Fairtrade Town is a town which makes Fairtrade products more easily available to its citizens through the various administrations, shops, businesses and the social “ (ciudad,justa.ideas.coop).

On Tuesday, 17th October, we presented the initiative “ Mungia: A Fairtrade Town” in Mugire Txoko. After an introduction by our group member Eduardo  Urturi, Asier Arcos from Emaus explained to the people what it meant to be a Fairtrade Town and what conditions had to be met. Next, our group member Eukene Guarrotxena explained what had been done o far to meet these requirements and it was very clear to everyone there that we were well on the way, even though there was still much work still to be done.

There are already six Fairtrade towns in the Basque Country so Mungia will hopefully e the seventh. So far we do not know exactly how many associations will make up the group but already many of the groups present have agreed to take part. Others will confirm in the following weeks as will other associations which couldn`t attend.

So soon the group “Mungia: A Fairtrade Town” will start its work and the first thing it will do is present the initiative in the Town-Hall where we expect our proposal to be accepted!! Finally, it must be said that our idea is to extend the idea of a Fairtrade Town to the whole area!
